1 Corinthians 1:28-31

"God chose what is low an despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.  And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, 'Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord."

Main Thought:

When the Lord chose his apostles, He did not choose those of elevated status in Jewish society or those of great earthly wisdom.  He chose men who were considered 'low an despised' in the eyes of the world.  And it was these lowly men who through the preaching of the gospel turned the world upside down for Christ (Acts 17:6).  No men will glory in heaven when we stand in the presence of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, for the salvation of every one of God's redeemed children is totally due to what Christ did for us.  What does Paul say above?  The wisdom we have regarding the Word of God and the gospel and of God Himself, is because we are in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:17).  The righteousness we have that declares us just in the eyes of God, is because we are in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:22-26).  The eternal sanctification or holiness we possess is because we are the children of God through Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 6:17).  And last, the redemption we have is most certainly in Christ Jesus, who shed his blood that we might have the eternal forgiveness of sins (Ephesians 1:7).  When we consider all of this, then there is no place for pride or boasting on our part, because we realize that our salvation is all of Christ and none of us in any way.  May the realization of this truth bring much humility, thanks and praise today.
